installed osx 10.6 + update to 10.6.8
disk utility – resize osx partition or add new partition to hdd in fat32
install xubuntu – follow this ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKrFiJH0UHc ):
(A) boot with alt-key held down
choose windows-DVD or -usb from boot-menu
go ahead till: install xubuntu (with osx/exclusively/something else) –> something else!
partition tool: delete fat32 partition and devide it into a 2-4x RamSize SwapSpace + a linux ext4-partition which will be mounted as / . choose to install the bootloader on the ext4 ( / ) partition. continue. the installer will say… problem:’you need a bios-partition‘. say continue and ignore message. installation process will be executed.
(B) install refind (after xubuntu installation):
download refind from website www.rodsbooks.com/refind/
extract archive/dmg on osx, go to the refind-folder in terminal and type: refind-installer
then restart mac
(C) install xubuntu wlan driver for mac a1304 (WIFI WON’T WORK!! use edimax usb-wifi-stick -> works immediately 🙂 ):
download driver from debian-package-website for xubuntu 14.04 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/b/bcmwl/bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
and the dkms-package http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/d/dkms/dkms_2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5_all.deb.
then copy the driver to an usb-drive and copy it to xubuntu
go to shell (cd to folder with .deb-files) and type:
sudo dpkg -i dkms_2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5_all.deb && sudo dpkg -i bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xubuntu installation – problems [solved]:
mouse/externalDVD etc stopped working / didn’t react anymore for both linux installer and osx –> solution –> start osx with cmd+alt+p+r to reset nvram (did not work) –> open mac and remove battery + electricity for some time, then start mac and press the start-button for 25sec … works!
