FCPX crashing at export:

reason – OSX Fotos installed a new MobileDevice.framework for an iPhone that was attached to the macbookpro some weeks ago. this framework crashes Final Cut Pro X maybe because my OS is quite old and the FCP version too, the iPhone is quite new. bad bug in OSX System! the faulty framework was installed in october 2020 during a fotoimport from (not my) iphone.

solution (step by step howto):
– open Finder and go to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
– check for the creation date of this framework. if it is very close to the date where FCP problems occured first go on with:
– check if you have an old (working) version of the MobileDevice.framework in TimeMachine.
– you can’t replace it as system integrity protection prevents you from writing into system-directory so we must deactivate system integrity protection:
— restart the mac and hold cmd+R for recovery
— in recovery mode open the terminal and type $ csrutil disable
— restart the mac
— open the Finder and go to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework again
— start TimeMachine and replace the framework with an older version (check the creation date of the folder)
— check if fcp export works now (mine does)
— restart to recovery mode and activate system integrity check in the terminal again:
— $ scrutil enable
— restart the mac
– done
